Update 2025-05-01 (1): Hundreds of people were detained on Thursday (1 May) during May Day demonstrations in Istanbul, Marmara Region. Reportedly, security forces were deployed in large numbers, and access to Taksim Square was sealed off following a ban on gatherings. Furthermore, multiple major roads in the districts of Fatih, Beyoğlu, Şişli, Beşiktaş, Kadıköy, and Kartal were reported closed, while several other roads leading to Taksim Square were also blocked in the Beşiktaş and Mecidiyeköy districts. In addition, several metro stations were reported closed, and ferry services between the European and Asian sides of the city were suspended. Affected metro stations include Vezneciler, Haliç, Taksim, Şişhane, Osmanbey, Mecidiyeköy, Gayrettepe, and Zincirlikuyu. Moreover, the Kabataş–Taksim funicular line, Istiklal Street tram, and the Tünel–Karaköy funicular line were also suspended. Meanwhile, a large demonstration was reported in the Kadıköy district amid heavy security presence.
