Update 2026-06-16: According to recent reports, several people were injured in the city of Palu as a result of the earthquake. Aftershocks are still occurring, some of which are also very strong and could cause further damage to buildings.

It is unlikely that a destructive tsunami was generated by a coastal earthquake of this magnitude. Smaller, local tsunamis can occur in coastal areas.
