Update 2021-08-26 (4): The attacks consisted of at least two IS suicide bombers as well as several other IS fighters employing firearms. US officials expect further IS attacks in Kabul, but will continue evacuations flights.
Update 2021-08-26 (3): At least 60 people were killed and more than 140 others injured in the two explosions. Likewise, at least 10 US soldiers have been killed in the attacks. Additionally, apparently yet another explosion has occurred near the airport.
Update 2021-08-26 (2): According to media reports from Thursday evening (26 August, local time), at least two explosions occurred at the Abbey Gate of Kabul airport and there were also reports of gunfire in the vicinity of the airport. At least 10 people were killed and dozens of others injured, among them several US soldiers. Moreover, an Italian plane was shot at earlier during its departure, but there were no casualties.
Update 2021-08-26 (1): According to media reports Thursday (26 August), several Western agencies are warning of an imminent terrorist threat at Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul. People near the airport are advised to stay away from the entrance gates.
