Update 2023-08-22 (4): Due to the fire near Fyli dozens of people were evacuated. Currently, the fire is moving to the east.
Evacuation orders are in effect in Ano Liossia, Fyli, Gennimatas, Kanala, Panorama and Agios Ioannis Rossos Dardiza, among others.
Fires in the Asprpyrgos area currently affect Lakka Katsari, Nea Zoi and Ammoundiens. Another fire broke out near Thriassio Hospital.
Update 2023-08-22 (3): Due to the spreading forest fire in the northwest of Athens, tens of thousands of residents of the Ano Liosa neighbourhood in the capital have been urged to evacuate. Meanwhile, houses are burning in Fyli.
Update 2023-08-22 (2): Regarding the fire near Lakka Katsari, residents of nearby Pontion and Veras have been told to evacuate. Just north of the affected area in Attica, another wildfire broke out near Kleiston Monastery. There, the residents of Fyli have been told to evacuate. Meanwhile south of Athens, residents of Valomandra near Kalyvia had to evacuate due to a wildfire. However this fire is reportedly under partial control.
Update 2023-08-22 (1): According to reports, in the municipality of Aspropyrgos, which was affected by the fire, large garbage dumps, industrial warehouses and mountains of car tires caught fire. Authorities called on residents in the area to keep windows and doors closed.
