New lithium battery-powered power bank specifications from the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) on March 27, 2026 will enhance safety and peace of mind for passengers and airlines alike. Following the improvements, these devices will now be limited to two per passenger, power banks are permitted for carry-on baggage only and must not be placed in checked luggage or stored in overhead compartments. Each power bank must be clearly labeled with its specifications or capacity and must be completely switched off throughout the flight. Every power bank must be individually placed in a transparent, resealable bag, with all ports sealed using insulating tape or covered with a protective cap. The use or charging of power banks is strictly prohibited during the flight, as power banks are allowed for carriage only and not for operation.
