Update 2026-07-10: Japanese authorities have issued warnings as Typhoon Bavi approaches the Sakishima Islands in Okinawa Prefecture through Saturday (11 July). The typhoon is forecast to bring violent winds, torrential rain, thunderstorms, rough seas, storm surges, flooding, and possible landslides, with strong winds expected across the Sakishima Islands, including Miyakojima and Ishigakijima. Airlines have cancelled dozens of flights serving the region, while some public beaches, coastal parks, and ferry terminals have been closed as residents complete storm preparations. Strong winds and hazardous marine conditions are also expected to affect Okinawa’s main island and Kagoshima Prefecture’s Amami region.
