Taiwan, Severe Weather, Level 3: Typhoon Danas made landfall in Budai Township – Taiwan [Update 6]

Update 2025-07-07 (3): Typhoon Danas hit the west coast of Taiwan on Monday morning (7 July, local time), killing at least two people and leaving at least 400,000 households without power. At least 491 people were injured and at least 3,500 people had to be evacuated. In addition, at least thirty-three international flights from Taiwan had to be canceled on Monday (7 July).

Update 2025-07-07 (2): Typhoon Danas made landfall on Sunday (6 July) at around 11:40 pm (local time) in Budai Township, Chiayi County, and reportedly moving northeast. The storm has impacted the southern regions, including Miaoli, Nantou, Taitung, and Hualien. Dozens of injuries were reported, while thousands have been evacuated. In addition, increased rainfall and strong winds were reported in central parts of the country.

Update 2025-07-07 (1): Danas was upgraded to a typhoon on Sunday (6 July) and is expected to get stronger as it moves closely along the west coastline. As a result, strong wind gusts are likely along the western coastal areas, specifically the area south of Hsinchu to Kaohsiung. Strong winds are also expected in Penghu, Tainan, Yunlin and Chiayi. The typhoon has led to significant disruptions, with rainfall shifting from Hualien, Taitung, and the Hengchun Peninsula to the west coast, and heavy rain is expected in Kaohsiung, Pingtung, and Penghu. Nearly thousands of households lost power, and another thousands of people were stranded in Penghu after ferry services, including those to Orchid and Green Islands, were suspended. In addition, China Airlines cancelled a flight to Hong Kong, while several other international flights were also postponed. All domestic flights and high-speed rail services have been cancelled for Monday (7 July).
