Update 2022-08-19 (4): Friday night (19 August, local time), heavy rains continued in Buller, Marlborough and Nelson Tasman. Locally, there are traffic restrictions due to high water and landslides. Near Nelson, at least 400 buildings had to be evacuated in the meantime.

Update 2022-08-19 (3): According to media reports on Friday (19 August) the ongoing heavy rain the Maitai River banks have been flooded causing significant damage. Hundreds of homes in Nelson have been evacuated.

Update 2022-08-19 (2): According to sources, the meteorological authorities have extended the weather warning for heavy rainfall in Marlborough Sounds and Bryant and Richmond areas including the Rai Valley until 2 pm (local time) on Saturday (20 August).

Update 2022-08-19 (1): According to the sources of Friday (19 August), the rain in Nelson has stopped but the emergency situation in the province still exists. Another round of showers is expected later on Friday (19 August). Several hundreds of houses have been evacuated so far, with roads near the area closed. Power outage is also being reported.
