Update 2023-08-22: After at least 15 villages around Alexandroupouli had to be evacuated, the forest fire has reached settlements on the outskirts of the city, where a university hospital had to be evacuated. At least one person died due to a forest fire burning out of control a little further north in Dadia National Park.
