2024-01-19: The members of CUPE 4500 (Canadian Union of Public Employees) representing over 180 transit supervisors with Coast Mountain Bus Company, has announced a possible escalation on Monday (22 January) at around 3 am (local time) in their strike in Lower Mainland Region, British Columbia, potentially halting all bus services in the Lower Mainland if their demands are not made. Reportedly, the strike action will suspend all buses and the SeaBus for 48 hours. Moreover, the ongoing overtime ban since January 6 will continue until a resolution is found.
If the strike proceeds as scheduled and is followed by enough workers, local traffic disruptions are to be expected. Before and after official strike hours, disruptions are also possible due to organisational reasons. Travellers should schedule additional time for their journey.
