China, Earthquake, Level 4: Disruptions due to strong magnitude 7.0 M earthquake at depth 13.00 km – Xinjiang, China [Update 3]

Update 2024-01-23 (3): Several people died on Tuesday (23 January) following a powerful magnitude 7.1 earthquake struck the Uchturpan County, Xinjiang Region. Material damage was also reported. Details are still emerging.

Update 2024-01-23 (2): According to reports, as of 8 am on Tuesday (23 January, local time) at least 40 aftershocks have been recorded in Xinjiang following the 7.1 M earthquake that struck in Uqturpan County in Xinjiang at around 2 am (local time). The initial earthquake was also felt in Urumqi, Korla, Kashgar, Yining, and nearby areas. Following the earthquake, rail services in Xinjiang were suspended and at least 27 trains were affected by the earthquake. Emergency response operations remain ongoing at this time.

Update 2024-01-23 (1): According to sources from Tuesday (23 January), several people sustained injuries, while over one hundred houses collapsed following the earthquake.
