Indonesia, Severe Weather, Level 3: Floods and landslides after heavy rainfall over Java and Sumatra – Indonesia [Update 1]

Update 2023-12-04: At least one person died on Friday (1 December), while multiple people went missing following flash floods and a landslide in a village near Lake Toba on Sumatra Island including destruction of numerous houses and at least one hotel.

2023-12-01: Heavy rains and strong winds that have swept across the islands of Java, the south of Sumatra and other parts of central Indonesia in recent days led to localized flooding, evacuations and landslides on Friday (1 December). In the districts of Tanggamus (Lampung province) and Malang (East Java), dozens of people had to be evacuated and bridges and hundreds of houses were damaged. There was also flooding in the greater Jakarta area. Further heavy rainfall is forecast over Java and Sumatra for the next 96 hours.
Traffic disruptions are to be expected, floods and landslides are possible. Travellers should exercise heightened caution, especially near rivers and mountainslopes, and follow instructions by authorities.
