2024-01-08: Several people were dead on Sunday (7 January) after getting hit by an avalanche in the Val Formazza valley of Verbano-Cusio-Ossola Province in the Piedmont region. Reportedly, the avalanche took place between Lake Toggia and San Giacomo pass.
Traffic disruptions are to be expected, floods and landslides are possible. Travellers should exercise heightened caution, especially near rivers and mountainslopes, and follow instructions by authorities.
