Update 2024-04-03: Buildings reportedly collapsed following the strong earthquake in eastern Taiwan on Wednesday (3 April). Damage and casualties are to be anticipated near the epicentre in Shoufeng township in Hualien county.

It is unlikely that a destructive tsunami was generated by a coastal earthquake of this magnitude. Smaller, local tsunamis can occur in coastal areas.
